What Are We To Think Of Consulting Spirits Of The Dead?
Of consulting the deceased, Scripture says, among other things, this:
… no conjurer, no one who interrogates the spirit of a dead person or a divining spirit, or who consults the dead. For everyone who does these things is an abomination to the LORD…
Deuteronomy 18:11,12
So Saul died because he had been unfaithful to the LORD, because he had not kept the word of the LORD, yes, had even interrogated and consulted the spirit of a dead person, and had not consulted the LORD.
1 Chronicles 10:13,14
And when they say to you: Ask the spirits of the dead and the divining spirits, who chirp and mutter. Shall a people not ask its God? Shall one ask the dead on behalf of the living?
Isaiah 8:19
Since the dead are truly dead (= can do nothing), spirits that present themselves at spiritistic gatherings must necessarily have a dark background. That also explains the extraordinarily strong rejection of spiritism in Scripture. Spiritism brings man into contact with lying spirits (= demons; 1 Timothy 4:1). Be warned: the teaching that the dead are not really dead but continue living in another way opens the door to spiritism. All religions proceed from this basic datum and, for that reason, form an entryway for demons (1 Corinthians 10:20).
