Why Must Christ Still Reign in the Last Eon (Rev. 21 & 22)? Are There No Enemies Left by Then?

Christ must be reigning…

…until He should be placing all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy is being abolished: death…
—1 Cor. 15:25, 26

The fact that Christ reigns with His own during the eon described in Rev. 21 and 22 (see 22:5), proves that death has not yet been abolished there. All enemies have meanwhile been subjected… but the last must also be abolished. As we saw earlier, during this eon there are still people in death (20:15; 21:8). Moreover, the nations on earth are indeed under ideal conditions, with the tree of life within reach, but they still need healing (Rev. 22:2). During this eon, death has been pushed back, but not yet abolished. That is why Christ still reigns.

Only when all have been made alive in incorruption, glory, and power (1 Cor. 15:42, 43), will death actually have been abolished, and the Son will be able to hand over a perfect Kingdom to His Father, “that God may be All in all” (1 Cor. 15:27, 28).
