Should Universal Reconciliation Be Preached as Well?
There must be speaking both about the seriousness of God’s judgments and about His surpassing mercy. Everything in its own time.
Besides, it is not so much Universal Reconciliation that must be preached, but the Universal Reconciler. Not the salvation of all people, but the Savior of all people. Not something, but Someone. That is the faithful word worthy of all acceptance, of which the apostle says: charge and teach this (1 Timothy 4:9-11).
That God, through the blood of the cross, reconciles the all to Himself (Col. 1:20), Paul calls a few verses later (:23) “the hope of the Gospel.” In that we should indeed remain grounded and steadfast and not be carried away from it, as Paul impresses upon his readers.
