Are “All” in Various So-Called “Universal Reconciliation Texts” Only All Believers?
The scope of words such as “all” and “all things” must be derived from the context in which they occur. That is completely correct. But precisely the context of Romans 5:18 shows that it really concerns all humanity. And precisely the context of 1 Corinthians 15:22 demonstrates that “all” knows no exceptions. And precisely the context of Colossians 1:20 makes clear that “all things” truly concerns the entire creation. Etc.
Traditional church doctrine reads these universal terms as referring exclusively to all believers. Even though the contexts clearly indicate otherwise. But because one thinks in terms of an endless hell or damnation, its eyes are closed to taking these texts as they present themselves.
