What Happens to the Devil?

The last thing we specifically read about the devil is that he will be cast into the lake of fire, where he will be tormented, literally, “for the eons of the eons” (Revelation 20:10), that is, into the most excellent ages. This is not endless. Of Christ we read in Revelation 11:15 that He will reign “for the eons of the eons,” while from 1 Corinthians 15:24–28 we know that this has an “until.” Only after that does God become “All in all.”

In Colossians 1:20 we read that God reconciles the all mutually to Himself, not only on earth but also in heaven. The hostile celestials as well (Ephesians 6:12) will be brought into peace with their Creator. Then satan is no longer satan (= adversary), and the devil is no longer devil (diabolos; one-who-throws-through-each-other)! Everyone will wholeheartedly confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:11).
