From Translated Articles to a Website of Its Own

When GoedBericht.nl was launched in 2000, I could not have imagined how much material would be gathered there over the years. Hundreds of articles, Bible studies, Q&A sections, and diagrams found their way onto the website.

From 2011 onward, English translations were also published. The initiative did not come from me, but from Peter Fedema, a brother of Dutch origin who had lived in Canada for many decades. Entirely on his own initiative, he offered to translate articles from GoedBericht (UltimateGoodNews.com) into English. What began with a few translations grew, in the years that followed, into an extensive collection of English articles. After his death, this translation work was continued by Martin Berkheij and Hans Brouwer. Hans in particular devoted himself to this for many years, until this work came to an end when, at the end of 2024, I stopped publishing daily reflections on a Bible verse. After that, the translation work was continued by Geert-Jan.

During the same period, the English collection grew substantially. Toward the end of last year, therefore, the idea arose not to continue offering the English articles as a separate section within GoedBericht.nl, but to house them on an independent English-language website. This has now resulted in the launch of UltimateGoodNews.com.

Much Work Behind the Scenes

With the decision to establish a full-fledged English-language website, a major project began. Not only did new articles have to be translated, but also a great deal of older material. Articles, Q&A sections, diagrams, Bible verses, and archival pieces that had been available only in Dutch for years have now also been made accessible to English-speaking readers.

Anyone familiar with the volume of material on GoedBericht.nl will understand that many days, weeks, and months of work have gone into this. That work was carried out behind the scenes, without any desire for recognition and with no other purpose than to make the Good News accessible to English-speaking readers as well.

A word of thanks is also due to Mike from Outhands. In a pleasant collaboration, he handled the technical development of the website and ensured that the project truly took shape. Naturally, matters will continue to be improved and refined in the coming period. That is inherent in a project of this scope. The foundation, however, is in place, and the website is now accessible to everyone.

That the Word May Race

For now, UltimateGoodNews.com primarily contains written material. The spoken studies, after all, are in Dutch. Yet much is changing. YouTube now offers the possibility of listening to lectures directly in other languages. The technology is still in its infancy, but developments are moving quickly. What still seems futuristic today may already be commonplace tomorrow.

Above all, I am grateful that the Good News is now becoming much more widely available in English as well. What we were privileged to make known for years throughout the Dutch-speaking world can now find its way much more easily to people far beyond our national borders.

We live in a time in which there are countless possibilities for making something known worldwide. How remarkable that these very means can be used for the ultimate good news that Paul was privileged to make known among the nations. May this word of Christ continue to race and be glorified (2 Thessalonians 3:1). Not to the glory of men, but to the glory of the one GOD, the Father, out of Whom and through Whom and for Whom all is.
