Colossians 3:25 — No Partiality

25 For he who is injuring shall be requited for that which he injures, and there is no partiality.

Paul concludes his words to slaves with a serious yet encouraging principle. The verse begins with the little word “for”: it further explains the assurance given in the preceding verse. The certainty that the Lord will grant the allotment rests on the fact that He administers justice without partiality. Slaves therefore do not need to take justice into their own hands. They can confidently leave everything to the Lord.

That is why Paul says that whoever does wrong will receive back the wrong he has done. He names no names or specific groups of people. Nor is that necessary, for he adds: “There is no partiality.” The distinction between a slave and a master may mean a great deal to people, but not to the Lord. He is not swayed by position or prestige but judges everyone according to truth.

Precisely for this reason, slaves can continue doing their work as for the Lord. They need not let injustice make them bitter but may leave everything to Him. Whoever lives by God’s grace and thanks Him for it knows that the Lord, in His time, will set everything right.
