Does the Belief That Everything Will Ultimately Turn Out Well Lead to an Indifferent Life?
For some, yes. The knowledge that not judgment but God’s grace ultimately triumphs can be used as an alibi for living irreverently. But whoever speaks this way knows neither the seriousness of judgment nor the goodness of God. The proclamation of God’s all-conquering grace is indeed a risk, for it can be misused “as an incentive to the flesh” (cf. Gal. 5:13). Paul knew this accusation as well; indeed, it was even put into his mouth, as we read in Romans 3:8. But God’s conquering grace is the truth and therefore should be proclaimed. Regardless of the risks.
Whoever truly knows and has understood the grace of God, saving, which has appeared to all humanity, is trained for a life in which God is glorified (Titus 2:11,12).
