Does Isaiah 14:9–11 Prove That The Dead Do Have Consciousness And Deliberation?

No, Isaiah is writing a “taunt song” here (14:4). In verse 8 Isaiah says that the cypresses rejoice and that the cedars of Lebanon speak out against the king of Babylon. Of course, this is symbolism. Immediately after that, Isaiah says that even the realm of the dead would be stirred up and that kings would rise, as soon as the king of Babylon would make his entrance there. The character of figurative language and satire lies thick upon it. Isaiah becomes realistic again when he says: “worms are spread out beneath you, and maggots are your covering.”
