Do We Not Rob Future Judgment of Its Seriousness If It Does Come to an End?

Is a judgment only serious if it has no end? Were the flood or the fire that rained on Sodom and Gomorrah not serious events because they lasted relatively briefly? Or was the Second World War perhaps not a serious event because it lasted only a few years? That is absurd, isn’t it?

The consequence of this line of reasoning would be that the Lord Jesus on Golgotha also would not have borne such serious suffering… After all, after only a few hours He cried: “It is accomplished!”

Psalm 30:5 puts it this way: “for His anger lasts a moment, His delight a lifetime!” Those are the Biblical proportions and measures.
