Do The Patriarchs Live Now?
But THAT THE DEAD ARE RAISED, Moses also indicated at the bramble bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. He is not a God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him they all live.
Luke 20:37,38 NBG51
Jesus shows these Sadducees (who deny the resurrection; Luke 20:27; Acts 23:8) from the Torah that the dead will be raised. After all, the Lord still calls Himself the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, even now that these men have long since died. To God these men live, even though they are “sleeping” at this moment. Soon they will be awakened out of the “sleep” (cf. John 11:11-13). Jesus’ statement has reference to the resurrection and not to a condition between dying and resurrection.
