Is God the Author of Sin?

Intense discussions have been – and still are – taking place on the forum about free will, predestination, the origin of evil, God’s sovereignty, ultimate destiny, and so on. From the very beginning, I have placed great emphasis on this site on the fact that God is GOD – that is, “the One Who determines everything and with Whom nothing goes wrong” (as is also stated on the homepage). If that is true, then there can, of course, be no such thing as a “free will” – that is, a will over which God would have no control. Whatever a creature may will, there is ONE Who pulls the strings. Or, as Proverbs 16:9 states:

9 A man’s heart, it devises his way, Yet YHWH, He establishes his steps.

This truth repeatedly provokes fierce resistance because acknowledging it knocks man off his pedestal. We are not beings (read: gods) who determine our own fate, but little clay figures under the direction of the great Potter.

Anyone who has come to know Who this Potter is and what kind of m a g n i f i c e n t Plan He is carrying out would not even want it any other way!

The other day, opponents challenged me to state on my homepage that, in my view, God is the Author of sin. I know that accusation. When you say you believe that nothing goes wrong with God and that, therefore, the entrance of sin and evil into this world was in accordance with God’s Plan, some say you make God a sinner.

The truth, however, is precisely the opposite! Sin = missing the mark. If the presence of the Adversary and the success he achieved were contrary to God’s Plan, then God missed the mark and would therefore be the ultimate sinner! If, on the other hand, God created the Adversary and had “factored in” that man would eat from the forbidden fruit – with all the consequences that followed – then nothing went wrong on His part.

God alone knows that, in the end, evil will have produced the ultimate good. Therefore, the presence of evil in this world is not God’s fault, but to His credit!
