Babylon in the Spotlight
10-10-2026 - Posted by Geert-JanOn October 8, the thirteenth edition of the international Babylon Festival opened in the historic city of Babylon in Iraq. For nine days, artists, writers, musicians, and researchers from approximately 42 countries are gathering here.
The festival has been held annually since 2012 and includes an international book fair, art exhibitions, theater, and music. It takes place under the patronage of the Iraqi prime minister. The motto is also telling: “We are all Babylonians.”
Babylon was once the capital of a world empire and is now best known for its ruins. But through this annual festival, the historic city is once again being brought prominently to international attention. Remarkable, especially since Babylon also occupies a prominent place in biblical prophecies (Revelation 17 and 18).
