Satan’s Fall… a Blunder

At the moment, virtually all attention on the GoedBericht (UltimateGoodNews.com) website and forum* is focused on the origin of evil. There is the familiar legend of Lucifer, who fell and thereby became Satan. Most Christians believe this is found in the Bible. It is not. The idea rests primarily on the refusal to accept God as the Creator of both good and evil. Because people find this impossible to stomach, they have raised a smokescreen to obscure the origin of evil as much as possible. (*Forum is offline)

The smokescreen works like this.

Question 1: How did evil enter this world?
Answer: Through the eating of the forbidden fruit.

Question 2: What made man eat the forbidden fruit?
Answer: The serpent’s deception.

Question 3: What made the serpent want to deceive?
Answer: Because the serpent is the devil, the father of lies.

Question 4: How did the devil become the father of lies?
Answer: The devil fell into sin.

Question 5: How did the devil fall into sin?
Answer: Because the devil chose to do so.

Question 6: What caused the devil to choose sin?
Answer: It must have been a combination of environmental factors and Satan’s nature.

Question 7: Who was responsible for the environmental factors and Satan’s nature?
Answer: …uhhh, you’re not supposed to ask questions like that.

You can see where this leads. No matter how long you keep kicking the can down the road, there is no avoiding the fact that the trail leads back to God. For He is the Creator of everything. That includes Satan. By accident or by design. It must be one or the other.

If Satan became Satan “by accident,” then God made a blunder. If God did it deliberately, then the presence of sin and evil in this world evidently has a purpose. And that is precisely what Scripture teaches.

“For God LOCKS UP ALL together in stubbornness, that He should be merciful to ALL. (…) For ALL is OUT OF HIM, THROUGH HIM, and FOR HIM. Glory be to Him throughout the eons! Amen.”
