‘The Future Does Not Belong to the Evangelicals’

Today I read an article in which Dr. A. van der Beek explains that the evangelical movement will disappear just as quickly as it once emerged.

“McGrath sees a better future for the evangelicals. I don’t believe it at all. It is precisely the evangelicals who are highly modern, with their emphasis on personal faith, their freedom from structures, their activism—in short, their ultra-Arminianism. They will do relatively well as long as they are carried along by the wave of culture. But they will disappear just as quickly as that wave does. That is why I think the evangelicals will disappear sooner than Protestantism (…) they are at the mercy of the whims of the moment.”
