‘the future does not belong to the evangelicals’

Today I read an article in which Dr. A. van der Beek explains that the evangelical movement will, in the future, disappear just as quickly as it once arose.

“McGrath sees a better future for the evangelicals. I don’t believe a word of it. The evangelicals are, in fact, highly modern with their emphasis on personal faith, their freedom from structures, their activism—in short, their ultra-Arminianism. They will do relatively well as long as they are carried by the wave of culture. But they will disappear just as quickly as that wave does. That’s why I think the evangelicals will vanish even sooner than Protestantism (…) they are at the mercy of the whim of the day.”
